[文摘]:To open up new optical frequency resources available for optical communications, the concept of all-band photonicshas been proposed, which is based on the utilization of broadband of optical frequencies from 1- to 2-&mgr;m waveband as anovel photonic band for photonic transmission. In this study, an ultra-broadband photonic transport system wasdeveloped by employing a long-distance holey-fiber transmission line to simultaneously use the new 1-&mgr;m waveband (Tband)and a conventional waveband. We successfully demonstrate the use of a photonic transport system to achieve simultaneous 3x10-Gbps error-free optical data transmissions for waveband division multiplexing of the 1-&mgr;m waveband, C-band, and L-band.

[文摘]:A systematic approach to the use of nondestructive evaluation (NDE) throughout the ceramic engine component development cycle is necessary to achieve the high reliability required for turbine engine applications. Specifically, NDE techniques must be developed and applied to component design, development, fabrication, and test to ensure adequate materials characterization. This approach has the potential of reducing ceramic component cost by optimizing the initial design and eliminating unacceptable components early in the fabrication cycle. Although research NDE techniques have been developed that have the potential to solve the problems of ceramic component inspection, systematic application of these NDE techniques for inspection and process control has not yet occurred. The application of NDE techniques for both material characterization and flaw detection is discussed as well as an approach for applying NDE throughout the fabrication process to achieve highly reliable ceramic components.
